Have you ever wondered: What does heritage taste like?

On our journey wandering through Vietnamese villages in search of what we call culture and heritage—or more profoundly, a journey back to understand ourselves—we have been fortunate enough to listen to, behold, and touch so many wonders.

Initially, the name Vi Heritage was simply our way of encapsulating our love for Vietnamese Heritage. But then, during a conversation on an old porch, someone read it as: “Vị Di Sản” (The Taste of Heritage). That interpretation left us momentarily silent. We asked ourselves: Does heritage have a taste? And if so, what is that taste that allows people to savor it, to cherish it, to remember it, and to love it?

And perhaps it is not far away; it is the taste of home-cooked meals. It is the flavor of a meal gathered around the hearth, which has nurtured so many Vietnamese people for thousands of years and remains a part of happiness to this very day.

It is the warm taste of reunion for children returning from afar, sitting together in a meal of togetherness...

It is the sweetness of the harvest season stretching from the plains to the high mountains, the briny taste of sea salt in a sun-drenched fishing village, and the scent of mother’s kitchen smoke still lingering on the mossy thatched roof.

These rustic things have been present, deeply ingrained in our flesh and blood, and passed down through generations. If that is not the "Taste of Heritage," then what could it be?

But perhaps the Taste of Heritage is not just for tasting. Heritage is also the sound of a rooster crowing at dawn, the colors of brocade garments drying on a rack, the memories of countryside life, and the deep emotions hidden in everyone's heart… Heritage has never been something overly profound. Sometimes, the most simple and ordinary things are the most sacred.

On our journey meeting farmers, artisans, and those who preserve the soul of heritage… we realized that there is no single perfect standard or norm that fits every region.

There were times when we thought we had to bring civilization, convenience, or projects to the community. But then, practical experience taught us to be silent. There are villages and people who do not need any further exploration or transformation. What they need most is peace to continue living, to continue weaving, making soy sauce, growing flowers,… and preserving their inherent way of life as naturally as breathing.

The kindest thing Vi Heritage can do is not to come and change things, but to come to listen, respect, and cherish the values that already exist.

What warms our hearts most on this journey is perhaps seeing more and more young people returning to their roots. They are eager about old traditions and ancient stories, feeling concerned and proud to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors. Culture today is no longer a story forgotten by time. Young people are living with culture, practicing it, creating, and confidently telling the story of Vietnam to the world with the breath of the modern era.

And perhaps, that is also the most beautiful taste of heritage: The taste of continuity.

Vi Heritage was born from such simple concerns. We do not aspire to do anything too grand; we only hope to be a small bridge, working with the people to preserve their identity, helping travelers touch the most authentic "Tastes of Heritage," and together nurturing the lifeblood of the nation so it may endure forever…
