Every year, when autumn arrives on the 10th day of the 8th lunar month, the space of the Pham clan ancestral house in Dong Thanh village settles into the solemn and warm atmosphere of the Autumn Sacrifice Ceremony. Amidst the swirling incense, descendants gather to turn toward their roots. Yet, beyond a traditional spiritual ritual, the Autumn Sacrifice here has become a Festival of Knowledge with a ceremony to honor and award scholarships. The rewards handed out carry not only material value but, more importantly, the passing on of the flame of knowledge and clan pride. The older generation passes on their faith to the younger, so that every Vietnamese child understands that: today's individual success is the continuation of the clan's glory tomorrow.
